Cassis emerged in 2014, led by the enchanting vocals of Véronique Ramén and the guitar stylings of Jon Edwards. Originally rooted in an acoustic sound, the band soon expanded both in size and sonic ambition. The rhythm section found its heartbeat with Warren Hall on drums and Sebastian Davidson on upright and electric bass. Tim Newhouse brought a new dimension with his dynamic touch on keys and saxophone, steering the band toward a more electrified, genre-blending style.
With this lineup, Cassis carved out a rare niche in the Australian music scene—especially in Perth—by championing a distinctly French pop sound. Their music weaves together rock, jazz, and a rich tapestry of personal influences, resulting in a sound that’s as eclectic as it is original.
One of the band’s defining charms is their bilingual repertoire: songs glide effortlessly between French and English, delivering lyrics with both emotional depth and stylistic flair. Their arrangements pulse with soulful grooves, layered psych-rock textures, and vibrant instrumental interplay, creating an immersive listening experience.
In 2021, Cassis reached a creative milestone with the release of their debut album Soul-Sterious and the EP Ecstasy. These releases were matched by a series of magnetic live shows that solidified their reputation as captivating performers.
Their latest single, Riding on Clouds, continues the band’s journey of sonic exploration. As Cassis evolves, they remain dedicated to crafting music that moves both heart and mind—an experience that’s unmistakably their own.
